About
Nastaliq script is the principal style of the Persian school of calligraphy, and is regarded as one of the most elegant, refined, and poetic forms in the history of calligraphic art. Its subtle balance of movement, rhythm, proportion, and geometry reflects the lyrical beauty found in the works of great Persian poets such as Hafez, Saadi, Rumi, and Omar Khayyam.
This course introduces participants to the techniques, tools, materials, and structural principles of traditional Persian calligraphy through the study of the Nastaliq script. Following classical methods while encouraging artistic exploration, the course seeks to create a harmonious balance between the discipline of tradition and creative expression.
Under the guidance of Master Bahman Panahi, participants will discover both the technical and artistic dimensions of calligraphic practice. From the fundamental elements of points, lines, and letterforms to the basic principles of calligraphic composition, students will progressively develop their understanding of this sophisticated visual language.
Particular attention is given to the traditional tools and materials that form an essential part of the philosophy and aesthetics of Persian calligraphy. Through direct engagement with these noble materials, participants gain a deeper appreciation of the original techniques and cultural heritage of this art form.

Bahman Panahi is an internationally renowned Master Calligrapher, visual artist and musician based in Paris. Born in Iran, he was immersed from an early age in the rich traditions of Persian calligraphy, poetry, and music. He studied calligraphy under distinguished Persian masters and pursued higher education in Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, the École des Beaux-Arts de Valenciennes, and the Sorbonne University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Visual Arts and Musicology.
His artistic and academic work explores the deep relationship between calligraphy and music, leading him to create the concept of Musicalligraphy, an interdisciplinary approach that reveals the musicality of lines, rhythm, movement, and visual form.
As a teacher, Bahman Panahi combines traditional methods with a contemporary and accessible pedagogical approach. His courses emphasize both technical skills and creative expression, inviting participants to experience calligraphy as an art of rhythm, harmony, concentration, and personal discovery. Open to all levels, his workshops make the beauty and poetry of Persian calligraphy accessible to students from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds.
Over the past decades, he has exhibited, lectured, performed, and taught internationally across five continents.
