About

Over five days we will paint a variety of flowers in watercolour, with each day focused on a different flower — roses, apple blossom, tulips, dahlias and lotus among them.

Watercolour offers both the opportunity to explore the soft petals of flowers and the immediate, gestural mark-making that can create a captivating painting. Learning from Chinese thought in painting, one discovers the importance of intention in each brush mark. Spaces left unpainted have a special purpose, set in contrast against those painted, exploring the duality of Daoism.

We will learn how to create interesting compositions by studying the work of watercolour masters. The week will move between demonstration, guided practice and time to paint, with individual attention throughout.
