About
In this course we will be using the idiosyncrasies of Islamic Patterns, the ideal proportions, the multi-level self-similarity and the magic of circles and origami to build paper edifices of reflection for contemplation of light casting shadow.
Students will learn about the logic of translating 2D into 3D in order to construct “nets”, flat maps of the faces of the object meant to be folded and joined to summon the object.
The magic of this method hinges on understanding the process through manual work in order to then take the lessons into other realms and mediums.

All levels of ability and experience are welcome. You must be aged 18 or over to participate in our programmes.

This course will take place at our studios at The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts,
19-22 Charlotte Road, London EC2A 3SG.
What should I bring to class?
All materials will be provided.
You may find it useful to bring a notebook and pen to take notes.
Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting slightly messy. Avoid wearing baggy clothing (especially sleeves), loose jewellery, high heels or open-toed shoes.

Do you offer concessions?
Yes, we offer concessions for Seniors/60+, full-time students and people who are unemployed/in receipt of benefits.
Concessions cannot be applied in retrospect. To receive a concession, please apply via our online form. We will then send you a discount code to use when booking your space.

Tutor Biography
Ricardo Hinojosa (Kamikyodai) is an artist from Monterrey, Mexico. He is interested in patterns and spatial forms. On a hunch he went to Spain to learn about Islamic Patterns and found enormous opportunity as he perfected the ability to transform traditional geometrical construction instructions into lines on paper.
