Iman Abbass (Ceramics)

about the artist

Inspired by the intricacy of Mamluk patterns and the magnificent facades of Cairo’s mosques, Iman’s turquoise ceramic mirror frame can be read as an original, contemporary piece expressed through a traditional technique. Iman experimented with a spectrum of techniques, leading her to create not only a mirror frame, but also ceramic plates and a vase. Her vase is inspired by an existing piece on display at the museum of Islamic Arts in Cairo. She used the lustre firing technique, for which a new kiln was built at the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo.
