About
The School of Traditional Arts is delighted to welcome back illuminator and calligrapher Ayten Tiryaki for this special course. Ayten hoca is a distinguished artist from a renowned lineage of teachers in the Ottoman tradition, and this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a true master of the craft.
In tezhip, the art of illumination, the Rumi motif is a key decorative element that brings elegance and rhythm to a design. In this course, students explore the Sarılma (interlaced) Rumi, a beautiful form where a secondary rumi motif, cloud shape, or leaf wraps gracefully around a primary rumi.
Throughout the course, participants dive into the principles and fine details of the motif, then transform their learning into practice—designing and painting their own unique composition.
