Our Centres

Our Centres are a key element in our Outreach Programme, enabling our core education programme to be extended out beyond London to communities in key locations around the world. The traditional arts and crafts curriculum which underpins our postgraduate programmes is adapted to the appropriate cultural context where each satellite school is based.

Jeddah – Saudi Arabia

Two programmes focused on preserving and revitalising the architectural heritage of Jeddah’s historic Al Balad district. In partnership with The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, these courses provide training and research on traditional crafts.

AlUla – Saudi Arabia

The Integrated Design & Craft Education Programme, in partnership with The Royal Commission for AlUla, offers structured training in traditional arts and crafts. The programme includes a one-year Vocational Training Programme for local artists, a Design and Production Studio for graduates, public workshops for the community, and an Artist in Residence Programme for local and international artists. The focus is on the preservation and development of AlUla’s natural and cultural heritage through education and hands-on craft training.

Jameel House of Traditional Arts – Cairo

The Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo, established by the King’s School and the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, aims to regenerate traditional Islamic arts and crafts. Since 2005, the School has worked to connect younger generations with their cultural heritage through a two-year programme at the Al Fustat Crafts and Ceramics Centre. Each year, 25 students learn traditional design principles and develop contemporary designs in various crafts.

Yuan Centre – Suzhou, China

The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts China Centre (Yuan Centre) in Suzhou opened in 2018 to provide education in traditional arts. This Centre offers a one-year Foundation-Level Studies programme, combining Eastern and Western teachings to develop skills in traditional design, fine art, and craftsmanship. Courses cover topics such as geometrical design, calligraphy, pigment painting, and Chinese classical gardens. The Centre aims to engage both students and the wider public with artistic traditions in a contemporary context.
