Degree Show 2021
In 2021, we were pleased to present the School’s annual Degree Show celebrating the two-year journey of our twelve MA graduates and the completed research project of our graduating doctoral student.
This year, our Degree Show was both online and in person, and featured work completed under highly challenging circumstances.
In June 2020, due to the pandemic, our degree show moved completely online. Despite the disappointment of students being unable to exhibit their works to visitors in person, the event was a great success, unexpectedly enjoyable as it meant viewers from far and wide could ‘attend’. This year the online show returns, offering our graduating students the opportunity to display their work to friends, family and all those interested in the traditional arts, wherever they are in the world. Over the past year our students have persevered with their post-graduate programmes, moving from online to in-person tuition and back again as the Covid landscape shifted, often without warning. They have met challenges and obstacles with courage and grace, and the work you see is a result of their passion, determination and commitment to the traditional arts.
From countries in Europe to the Middle East, China, the United States, Taiwan, India, and Brazil our MA students have explored traditions such as: Persian miniature painting, Christian-inspired painting, geometric ceramic tiles, Islamic illumination, South Indian Tanjore painting, Chinese indigo textiles, Mughal-inspired painting, Chinese landscape and plein-air painting and nature-inspired illustrations. The PhD project considered the relationship between spiritual and professional architectural practice in the conversion of a Victorian shopfront into a centre for study, prayer and community.
