About

Paint an icon of Our Lady of Aparecida, the principal patroness of Brazil. Widely venerated by Brazilian people, she was reported to have performed many miracles, including a miracle for an enslaved young man. In this icon she is depicted as a Black Madonna, with a beautifully adorned veil.

During this course, students will learn the dry brush technique, where thin strokes of paint are layered to create a result of luminosity. An egg tempera paint will be mixed with hand-crushed natural pigments and applied to a plaster panel. Gilding will also be taught using clay and real gold leaf, as well as decoration with small crystals.
