About

Inspired by the drawings of Italian Renaissance masters such as Raphael, DaVinci, Michelangelo and more, learn to draw using the mediums of charcoal, ink and metalpoint.

Begin with a visit to the exhibition, Drawing the Italian Renaissance, at the King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace to view work by various artists and the many drawings techniques used in their
works. Then, guided by tutor Gabriel Chaim explore the drawing tools and techniques for yourself.

This course will cover drawing with charcoal (black and in colour), metalpoint and ink. The course will also cover preparation of materials such as tinted papers, supports and ground from bone ash.

Who is this course for?

All levels of ability and experience are welcome. You must be aged 18 or over to participate in our programmes.

Where will this course take place?

This course will take place at our studios at The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts,
19-22 Charlotte Road, London EC2A 3SG.

What should I bring to class?

Please bring:

  • your own metal-holder.
  • a paint brush, pointed round watercolour, size TBC

Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting slightly messy. Avoid wearing baggy clothing (especially sleeves), loose jewellery, high heels or open-toed shoes.

Do you offer concessions?

Yes, we offer concessions for full-time students and Seniors/60+.

Concessions cannot be applied in retrospect. To receive a concession, please apply via our online form. We will then send you a discount code to use when booking your space.

Tutor Biography

Gabriel Chaim is a Brazilian artist, living and working in Europe. He is a graduate of The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, where he was excited to find an institution still teaching traditional techniques rooted in the inspirational principles connecting the whole of creation.
